“The question is not whether climate change is happening but whether, in the face of this emergency, we ourselves can change fast enough.”
- Kofi Annan, seventh UN Secretary-General, COP 12, COP/MOP 2, Speech, Nairobi, Kenya, Nov 2006

Paradigm — A pattern, a set of rules, or a way of seeing that both establishes guidelines and dictates behavior within those guidelines.
To bring about the paradigm shift necessary to limit human-induced catastrophic climate change, we must accelerate our efforts on a broader scale than ever before. We must reach across borders both physical and disciplinary. We must reach across boundaries both political and social. And we must do it now.

Paradigm shift — A moment in history when the key concepts and "ways of seeing" of an era give way to new ones. When a paradigm shift occurs, we suddenly find ourselves in a brand-new ball game, on a new playing field, with a new set of rules. These are revolutionary changes, not incremental ones, and handling them successfully demands a radical break with tradition.
How can this shift be made? Have past social movements set precedents, leaving a definitive trail of knowledge for us to follow? What practices are being identified around the globe for us to emulate? What really works?

Join academics and activists, scientists and social critics, researchers, journalists, and concerned citizens from around the world in our online forum as we consider these questions, cross these boundaries, and look for answers and actions to make this shift a reality.

"As conservation pioneer Aldo Leopold cautioned, education isn't a complete answer to the formidable environmental challenges we face. Education — and passion — must lead to personal and collective
action if we are to achieve meaningful environmental progress."

- Mark Van Putten, President and CEO, National Wildlife Federation
