FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2008 EcoRes Forum Spotlight: Wendy Lynne Lee

    Wendy Lynne Lee, Ph.D.

Professor, Department of Philosophy
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania
Bloomsburg, PA, USA

Philosophy of language (later Wittgenstein); Feminist theory; Ecological feminism/ environmental philosophy; Philosophy of mind/brain

Wendy Lynne Lee is Professor at the Bloomburg University of Pennsylvania, where she joined the Department of Philosophy following doctoral studies at Marquette University.

Author of numerous publications including "On Ecology and Aesthetic Experience: A Feminist Theory of Value and Praxis" and "The Aesthetic Appreciation of Nature, Scientific Objectivity, and the Standpoint of the Subjugated: Anthropocentrism Reimagined," Lee has established a name for herself as a champion spokesperson in the fields of ecological feminism and environmental philosophy.

In June, Lee will be traveling to Athens to participate
in the Third International Conference on Philosophy.
She will be presenting a paper entitled "Aristotle’s Conception of Life and its Significance for Feminist
Theory," an ecologically grounded reading of
Aristotle's de Anima. The paper is forthcoming
in the online journal of philosophy, Diametros.

Lee's development of a "radically reconstructed, anthropocentrically focused ecological feminism," based on the claim that "while we cannot alter what is a fundamentally human consciousness, we can create the conditions for a radical change of consciousness" has led
to a number of animated exchanges both on and off the Ecores Forum, and has produced several published essays, most recently, the forthcoming "Environmental Pragmatism Re-
visited: Human-Centeredness, Language, and the Future of Aesthetic Experience"
(Environmental Philosophy) and "'Who’s My Special Beagle?' Anthropomorphizing, Anthropocentrism, and Moral Responsibility," forthcoming in What Philosophy Can Tell Us About Our Dogs (New York: Blackwell).

The EcoRes Forum is
delighted to welcome
Professor Wendy Lynne Lee
as Co-Facilitator of the
April 2008 E-Conference
and wishes to recognize her
contributions in the fields of ecofeminism and feminist theory.
